No. Wall Street is not Peterborough's financial district. The name comes from the granite wall that encloses the adjoining parking lot, that once served as the foundation of a five-story factory building pictured above. The steeple of the former Baptist Church, now the Mariposa Museum, is just visible on the far right.
In fact, Wall Street didn't exist until after the 1930s. Prior to that, this was the site of a narrow two-and-a-half story wood working shop.
Today, Wall Street is your destination for downtown parking. You can also visit the Putnam Zen Garden which leads to Main Street.
